MY CHILD IS A BEGINNER/YOUNG/INEXPERIENCED, IS THAT OK? Absolutely! DIVING 101 is for the diver who is just beginning or has some summer experience with diving. The Club has divers ranging in age from 7-18.
CAN MY CHILD COME FOR ONE HOUR OF PRACTICE? ONE NIGHT A WEEK? TAKE OFF DURING ANOTHER SPORT SEASON?...Consistency in practice is key to success. Consistency in practice leads to success and consistency in competition. That being said, we understand that children should be offered many opportunities to grow in sports and other activities. Also, that each athlete is different and must practice/participate at their own pace. A note or conversation with the coach regarding your absence is appreciated.
CAN WE COME EARLY TO PRACTICE? No, the Natatorium it utilized for many teams. Our hours are 6-8pm, shifting to 4-6pm in June for the balance of the summer. We are also bound by NCAA rules restricting overlapping of collegiate and non-collegiate athletes.
WILL WE BE ATTENDING MEETS? Those divers who are ready to compete at the local or national level will attend meets. Attendance is not mandatory. Meet participation may require an additional Michigan Diving League registration fee.
CAN I WATCH PRACTICE? Due to a new security policy (12/08) parents may not be on deck or in the stands during practice. If you want to observe practice as a new diver you are welcome to but must call the coach to make arrangements.
DO I NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT? You need only a towel and appropriate bathing suit. A team suit will be chosen each spring and made available to all members. Competitive divers will need to purchase a team suit.
